Osteoporosis is a weakening of bone caused by hormonal changes as a woman enters menopause. Exercise has been proven to help improve bone density, balance, and posture. Our physical therapists prescribe gentle, individualized exercise programs to promote increased strength and flexibility. The desired outcome encourages a more active lifestyle while decreasing the potential for falls and possible fractures.
Lymphedema
Our comprehensive approach to the treatment of lymphedema includes manual lymph drainage, progressive yet gentle weight training, and flexibility exercises. The correct combination will expedite your recovery.
prenatal
Our exercises programs are designed to assist pregnant women in improving comfort and developing body awareness while preparing for childbirth. Mothers are encouraged to enjoy their changing shape, strengthen key muscles and develop good breathing habits. The gentle flowing motion of exercises will stretch, condition and relax the whole body, while relieving any discomfort your changing body might have.
postpartum
Now that you have given birth to a beautiful baby, your body will change once again. Breastfeeding may keep your ligaments lax while your body is undertaking the new stresses of caring for your precious little one. We incorporate gentle manual techniques to stabilize your spine and joints. We work to alleviate pain or dysfunction you may be having from delivery trauma, i.e. a painful episiotomy scar, organ prolapse or incontinence. Our therapists will help you strengthen your core, back and pelvic floor and teach you proper body mechanics in caring for your little one.
Pelvic Floor Laxity
The rehabilitation of incontinence and prolapse involves careful evaluation in addition to thorough treatment. Treatment may consist of progressive strength and coordination exercises, bladder and habit training, biofeedback, visceral manipulation, Pilates core strengthening, muscle re-education and electrical stimulation.
Urinary/Fecal Incontinence
Whether your bladder is urgent, leaking or you are frequently running to the bathroom, the loss of bladder control is embarrassing for anyone. Whether you are recently post partum, had a recent hysterectomy or just realizing your bladder control is diminishing, CTS therapists can help. Your therapist will assess posture, strength, coordination, tissue integrity and visceral mobility. You then begin a comprehensive treatment plan which may include a home exercise program, dietary and toileting changes, release of scar tissue/muscle tension, and perhaps electrical stimulation and/or biofeedback. The goal of treatment is to reconnect your mind to your muscles and therefore regain control of bladder function.
Pelvic Pain
Whether you are post partum, post hysterectomy or just living with chronic pain, options are available and your needs will be addressed. Some women complain of a “headache in the pelvis”, others describe sharp, burning pain with intercourse or everyday activities. Either way, the pain usually disrupts relationships and lifestyles. You will undergo an extensive evaluation to determine the source of your pain and design your treatment plan. Treatment techniques include: myofascial and trigger point release, visceral manipulation, education in dietary habits, stress management and modalities as needed.
Post Surgical
Surgery, despite its many benefits, is classified as a trauma to the body, because it is changing the way the body works. An organ is taken out, repositioned or cut through in order to accomplish the need of the operation. Once the body is entered, it may not settle and heal perfectly, which can cause secondary problems such as scar tissue, abnormal posturing and organ dysfunction.
Some common surgeries for which we can help you recover include:
Post-op Hysterectomy
Post-op Cesarean Section
Abdominal Surgeries
Hernia Repair
Post-op Bladder Sling
Post-op Vaginal Reconstruction
Post-op Laparoscopy

Pelvic Pain
Pain is multi-factorial in nature and almost always has a physical component. In a man, pain can manifest either in the pelvis itself, in the penis and/or testicles. Commonly treated diagnoses are:
Testicular Pain
Penile Pain
Pain with Sex
Pain with Ejaculation or Post-Ejaculation
The most common causes of pain are poor blood flow, muscle spasms, and/or restrictions in organs from poor postures, diet and perhaps prior surgeries. Physical therapy can help restore the normal function of muscles through education, postural correction, manual therapy and exercise.
Sexual Health & Dysfunction
Sex is a primary source of intimacy between two people and when it is disturbed in any way it can lead to dissatisfaction with ourselves and in our relationships. Common causes for sexual dysfunction are:
Erectile Dysfunction
Premature Ejaculation
Retrograde Ejaculation
Painful Ejaculation
Most causes for pain and erectile dysfunction is related to insufficient blood flow, muscle spasms in the pelvic floor and/or surrounding musculature, restrictions in surrounding organs either due to faulty postures and/or prior surgery. Physical therapy can help restore the normal function of muscles through education, postural correction, soft tissue release, muscle re-education and exercise.
Urinary Dysfunction
Urinary dysfunction is a common occurrence as we age and the incidence can become even more prevalent after any surgery, but primarily after prostate surgery due to the proximity of the urethra to the prostate. Common symptoms are:
Urinary Frequency
Urinary Hesitancy
Painful Urination
Urinary Incontinence
Incomplete Bladder emptying
Dribbling after urination
These symptoms are usually related to muscle spasms and/or weakness in the pelvic floor muscles, lack of coordination in these muscles and/or poor blood flow. Physical therapy can be especially beneficial to help restore the normal function of these muscles to alleviate these symptoms through education, soft tissue release, muscle re-education and exercise.
Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson's treatment at CTS includes an individual assessment and treatment plan focused on patients needs and goals. We have staff who are certified in LSVT BIG, a treatment approach developed specifically for Parkinson's patients.
LSVT BIG focuses on exercises and movements with an increased amplitude to mimic true, normal mobility. During the exercises, the therapist provides feedback and cuing to optimize outcomes. For studies on effectiveness of this intervention visit lsvtglobal.com
As always, our therapists can also blend a Pilates exercise routine and manual treatment techniques to provide a complete treatment.
